self-care: a reminder

Over the last couple of weeks, I have immersed myself in Inclusion and Diversity, both the course and in my professional and personal life. In the projects I’ve been working on, I’ve sought to apply the knowledge I’m learning into practice, as well as having important conversations and discussions with people in my professional field. I’ve also become heavily involved in an online campaign which seems to have overtaken my life, to the point when I’m sitting on the sofa and instead of relaxing, I’m working on the campaign.

I need to learn to stop.

Not stop completely, but learn to recognise when I need to take a break and switch off. I’m sure there are many of us who need to do this, or need to hear this.

It’s OK to stop and take care of yourself for a bit.

I’m learning that I can’t be a superhero at everything, all the time. And to be honest, nobody needs to be, but somehow, somewhere along the line, it’s been drummed into my head that I should be – and it’s unhealthy.

Step in #StetWalk. It’s been a revelation and I love it. Taking maybe half an hour, or 45 minutes to get out of the house and be in nature with nobody else but my thoughts and my phone for photos. Even getting a little bit lost is a bonus – who knows what you might find.

And that’s all I really wanted to say. Take care of yourselves because you matter.
